The Strokestown International Poetry Competition

offers prizes of  €4,000  (approximately £3,000 sterling), €2000 and €1000 
for an unpublished poem in English not exceeding 70 lines.

In addition up to seven commended poets will be invited to read at the festival

The Strokestown Irish/Gaelic language Poetry Competition

The Strokestown Irish/Gaelic language Poetry Prizes will again be awarded in 2009.


Prizes of €4,000 (approximately £2,500 Sterling) €2,000 and €1,000
for a poem in Irish or Scottish Gaelic, unpublished and not exceeding 70 lines

In addition up to three commended poets are invited to read at the festival 
for a reading fee and travelling expenses totalling €450.

The Strokestown Satire Prize

Backhanders of €300,  €100, €80 and various other sums in brown envelopes
are passed under the table for witty - and ideally, funny - topical verse in English, or with a translation if in Irish.
